ਦਰਵੇਸੀ ਕੋ ਜਾਣਸੀ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਕੋ ਦਰਵੇਸੁ ॥

How rare is the dervish, the Saintly renunciate, who understands renunciation.

ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਫ਼ਕੀਰ ਫ਼ਕੀਰੀ (ਦੇ ਆਦਰਸ਼) ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕੋ = ਕੋਈ।

ਜੇ ਘਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਹੰਢੈ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਧਿਗੁ ਜੀਵਣੁ ਧਿਗੁ ਵੇਸੁ ॥

Cursed is the life, and cursed are the clothes, of one who wanders around, begging from door to door.

(ਫ਼ਕੀਰ ਹੋ ਕੇ) ਜੇ ਘਰ ਘਰ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਫਿਰੇ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹਦੇ ਜੀਊਣ ਨੂੰ ਫਿਟਕਾਰ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ (ਫ਼ਕੀਰੀ-) ਜਾਮੇ ਨੂੰ ਫਿਟਕਾਰ ਹੈ। ਹੰਢੈ = ਫਿਰੇ। ਧਿਗੁ = ਫਿਟਕਾਰ-ਯੋਗ। ਵੇਸੁ = (ਫ਼ਕੀਰੀ) ਪਹਿਰਾਵਾ।

ਜੇ ਆਸਾ ਅੰਦੇਸਾ ਤਜਿ ਰਹੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਿਖਿਆ ਨਾਉ ॥

But, if he abandons hope and anxiety, and as Gurmukh receives the Name as his charity,

ਜੇ (ਦਰਵੇਸ਼ ਹੋ ਕੇ) ਆਸਾ ਤੇ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਦੇਵੇ ਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਭਿਖਿਆ ਮੰਗੇ,
