ਚੌਪਈ:
ਸੁਨਿ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਅਧਿਕ ਤ੍ਰਾਸਿ ਤਿਨ ਧਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ (ਇਹ) ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਡਰ ਮਨਾਇਆ
ਆਜੁ ਨਾਰਿ ਮੋ ਕੋ ਇਨ ਮਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
When the Raja heard, he was very much scared and thought, ‘This woman would get me killed today.
(ਅਤੇ ਸੋਚਿਆ ਕਿ) ਅਜ ਇਸ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਛੋਰਿ ਸੰਦੂਕ ਹਮੈ ਗਹਿ ਲੈਹੈ ॥
When the Raja heard, he was very much scared and thought, ‘This woman would get me killed today.
ਸੰਦੂਕ ਨੂੰ ਖੋਲ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਇਹ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਫੜ ਲਏਗਾ
ਕਾਢਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨ ਭਏ ਬਧ ਕੈਹੈ ॥੭॥
‘They will open the box and with the sword they will murder me.’(7)
ਅਤੇ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨ ਕਢ ਕੇ ਮਾਰ ਦੇਵੇਗਾ ॥੭॥
ਕੁੰਜੀ ਡਾਰਿ ਸਾਹ ਢਿਗ ਦੀਨੀ ॥
(ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੇ ਸੰਦੂਕ ਦੀ) ਕੁੰਜੀ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਕੋਲ ਸੁਟ ਦਿੱਤੀ
ਦ੍ਵੈ ਕਰ ਜੋਰਿ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕੀਨੀ ॥
She gave the key to the Banyia and, with folded hands, requested,
ਅਤੇ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਹੱਥ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕੀਤੀ।
ਜਾਰ ਸੰਦੂਕ ਛੋਰਿ ਲਖਿ ਲੀਜੈ ॥
ਸੰਦੂਕ ਖੋਲ੍ਹ ਕੇ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਯਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਲਵੋ
ਮੋ ਬਤਿਯਾ ਕਰਿ ਸਾਚੁ ਪਤੀਜੈ ॥੮॥
‘Please open the door of the box believing my talk to be true.(8)
ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਚ ਮੰਨ ਕੇ ਤਸੱਲੀ ਕਰ ਲਵੋ ॥੮॥
