ਚੌਪਈ:
ਦਛਿਨ ਦੇਸ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਤ ਵਹ ਬਰੀ ॥
ਉਹ ਦੱਖਣ ਦੇਸ ਦੇ (ਕਿਸੇ) ਰਾਜੇ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਆਹੀ ਗਈ
ਭਾਤਿ ਭਾਤਿ ਕੇ ਭੋਗਨ ਕਰੀ ॥
She was married to a southern Raja and she started to enjoy variable carnal pleasures.
ਅਤੇ ਭਾਂਤ ਭਾਂਤ ਦੇ ਐਸ਼ਵਰਜ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਈ।
ਦੋਇ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਕੰਨ︀ਯਾ ਇਕ ਭਈ ॥
(ਉਸ ਦੀ ਕੁਖ ਤੋਂ) ਦੋ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਅਤੇ ਇਕ ਲੜਕੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਈ,
ਜਾਨੁਕ ਰਾਸਿ ਰੂਪਿ ਕੀ ਵਈ ॥੮॥
She gave birth to two sons and a daughter, who were the epitome of splendour as well.(8)
ਮਾਨੋ (ਉਹ ਲੜਕੀ) ਰੂਪ ਦੀ ਰਾਸ ਹੋਵੇ ॥੮॥
ਕਿਤਕਿ ਦਿਨਨ ਰਾਜਾ ਵਹੁ ਮਰਿਯੋ ॥
ਕੁਝ ਸਮੇਂ ਬਾਦ ਉਹ ਰਾਜਾ ਮਰ ਗਿਆ।
ਤਿਹ ਸਿਰ ਛਤ੍ਰੁ ਪੂਤ ਬਿਧਿ ਧਰਿਯੋ ॥
Soon after that Raja died, the crown of sovereignty was put on the son’s head,
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਛਤ੍ਰ ਵਿਧਾਤਾ ਨੇ (ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਪੁੱਤਰ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਧਰਿਆ।
ਕੋ ਆਗ︀ਯਾ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਤੇ ਟਰੈ ॥
ਉਸ ਦੀ ਆਗਿਆ ਤੋਂ ਕੌਣ ਟਲ ਸਕਦਾ ਸੀ।
ਜੋ ਭਾਵੇ ਚਿਤ ਮੈ ਸੋ ਕਰੈ ॥੯॥
And then whose orders no body could refute and he could do whatever the way he liked.(9)
(ਉਹ) ਜੋ ਚਿਤ ਵਿਚ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਸੀ, ਉਹੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਸੀ ॥੯॥
ਐਸ ਭਾਤਿ ਬਹੁ ਕਾਲ ਬਿਹਾਨ੍ਰਯੋ ॥
ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਮਾਂ ਬੀਤ ਗਿਆ।
ਚੜਿਯੋ ਬਸੰਤ ਸਭਨ ਜਿਯ ਜਾਨ︀ਯੋ ॥
Long time passed, and the spring season prevailed.
ਬਸੰਤ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਆਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਸਭ ਨੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਜਾਣ ਲਿਆ।
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਪਿਯ ਬਿਨ ਰਹਿਯੋ ਨ ਪਰੈ ॥
She (the widowed Rani) could not bear without her lover
ਇਸ ਲਈ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਰਹਿਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ।
ਬਿਰਹ ਬਾਨ ਭਏ ਹਿਯਰਾ ਜਰੈ ॥੧੦॥
As her heart was riddled with the arrows of separation.(10)
ਵਿਯੋਗ ਦੇ ਬਾਣਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਹਿਰਦਾ ਸੜ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ ॥੧੦॥
