ਚੌਪਈ:
ਦੇਵ ਅਦੇਵ ਮਿਲਤ ਸਭ ਭਏ ॥
ਦੇਵਤੇ ਅਤੇ ਦੈਂਤ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ
ਛੀਰ ਸਮੁੰਦ ਮਥਬੇ ਕਹ ਗਏ ॥
The devils and the gods, all, got together and went to churn the sea.
ਛੀਰ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਰਿੜਕਣ ਲਈ ਗਏ।
ਚੌਦਹ ਰਤਨ ਨਿਕਾਰੇ ਜਬ ਹੀ ॥
ਜਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਚੌਦਾਂ ਰਤਨ ਬਾਹਰ ਕਢੇ ਗਏ,
ਦਾਨੋ ਉਠੇ ਕੋਪ ਕਰਿ ਤਬ ਹੀ ॥੧॥
When they had churned out fourteen treasures, the devils were enraged.(1)
ਉਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਦੈਂਤ ਕ੍ਰੋਧਿਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਉਠ ਖੜੋਤੇ ॥੧॥
ਹਮ ਹੀ ਰਤਨ ਚੌਦਹੂੰ ਲੈ ਹੈ ॥
(ਅਤੇ ਕਹਿਣ ਲਗੇ) ਅਸੀਂ ਹੀ ਚੌਦਾਂ ਰਤਨ ਲਵਾਂਗੇ,
ਨਾਤਰ ਜਿਯਨ ਨ ਦੇਵਨ ਦੈ ਹੈ ॥
‘We will take all the fourteen treasures failing which we will not let the gods live in peace.
ਨਹੀਂ ਤਾਂ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਜੀਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿਆਂਗੇ।
ਉਮਡੀ ਅਮਿਤ ਅਨਿਨ ਕੋ ਦਲਿ ਹੈ ॥
ਫ਼ੌਜਾਂ ਦੇ ਬੇਸ਼ੁਮਾਰ ਦਲ ਉਮਡ ਪਏ।
ਲਹੁ ਭੈਯਨ ਤੇ ਭਾਜਿ ਨ ਚਲਿ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
‘Our innumerable army will rise and will see how they manage to escape from the younger brothers.’(2)
(ਦੈਂਤ ਕਹਿਣ ਲਗੇ ਕਿ ਅਸੀਂ) ਛੋਟੇ ਭਰਾਵਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਭਜ ਕੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਵਾਂਗੇ ॥੨॥
