TOMAR STANZA
ਤੋਮਰ ਛੰਦ:
ਅਵਿਲੋਕੀਆ ਅਜਿ ਰਾਜ ॥
(ਰਾਜ ਕੁਮਾਰੀ ਨੇ) ਅਜ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਅਤਿ ਰੂਪ ਸਰਬ ਸਮਾਜ ॥
ਉਹ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਸਰੂਪ ਵਾਲਾ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਸਮਾਜ ਸਹਿਤ ਹੈ।
ਅਤਿ ਰੀਝ ਕੈ ਹਸ ਬਾਲ ॥
ਬਹੁਤ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਅਤੇ ਹਸ ਕੇ (ਰਾਜ ਕੁਮਾਰੀ ਨੇ)
ਗੁਹਿ ਫੂਲ ਮਾਲ ਉਤਾਲ ॥੮੬॥
When the princess saw the king, the treasure of beauty, she held her wreath of flowers with smile.86.
ਛੇਤੀ ਹੀ ਫੁਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਾਲਾ ਗੁੰਦ ਲਈ ॥੮੬॥
ਗਹਿ ਫੂਲ ਕੀ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਲ ॥
(ਫਿਰ) ਫੁਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਾਲਾ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਫੜ ਲਈ।
ਅਤਿ ਰੂਪਵੰਤ ਸੁ ਬਾਲ ॥
ਉਹ ਰਾਜ ਕੁਮਾਰੀ ਬਹੁਤ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਸਰੂਪ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ।
ਤਿਸੁ ਡਾਰੀਆ ਉਰਿ ਆਨਿ ॥
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆ ਕੇ (ਅਜ ਰਾਜਾ) ਦੇ ਗਲੇ ਵਿਚ ਮਾਲਾ ਪਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ
ਦਸ ਚਾਰਿ ਚਾਰਿ ਨਿਧਾਨਿ ॥੮੭॥
The charming damsel caught the garland in her hand and put it around the neck of the king, expert in eighteen sciences.87.
ਜੋ ਅਠਾਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਿਧੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸੀ ॥੮੭॥
ਤਿਹ ਦੇਬਿ ਆਗਿਆ ਕੀਨ ॥
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਦੇਵੀ (ਸਰਸਵਤੀ) ਨੇ ਆਗਿਆ ਕੀਤੀ
ਦਸ ਚਾਰਿ ਚਾਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਬੀਨ ॥
ਜੋ ਅਠਾਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਲਾਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਨਿਪੁਣ ਸੀ।
ਸੁਨਿ ਸੁੰਦਰੀ ਇਮ ਬੈਨ ॥
ਹੇ ਸੁੰਦਰੀ! ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਬਚਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣੋ,
ਸਸਿ ਕ੍ਰਾਤ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਨੈਨ ॥੮੮॥
The goddess said to that princess, who was expert in all sciences, “O beautiful maiden like moonlight having charming eyes! listen to what I say.88.
ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਨੈਣ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾ ਵਾਂਗ ਜੋਤਿਮਈ ਹਨ ॥੮੮॥
ਤਵ ਜੋਗ ਹੈ ਅਜਿ ਰਾਜ ॥
ਅਜ ਰਾਜਾ ਤੇਰਾ (ਪਤੀ ਹੋਣ) ਯੋਗ ਹੈ।
ਸੁਨ ਰੂਪਵੰਤ ਸਲਾਜ ॥
“O princess full of charm and shyness! the king Aj is worthy match for you
ਸੁਣ, ਉਹ ਰੂਪਵਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਲਾਜ ਸਹਿਤ ਹੈ।
ਬਰੁ ਆਜੁ ਤਾ ਕਹ ਜਾਇ ॥
ਹੁਣੇ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਵਰ ਲੈ।
ਸੁਨਿ ਬੈਨਿ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਕਾਇ ॥੮੯॥
You see him and listen to my speech”89.
ਹੇ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਸ਼ਰੀਰ ਵਾਲੀਏ! (ਮੇਰੇ) ਬਚਨ ਸੁਣ ਲੈ ॥੮੯॥
ਗਹਿ ਫੂਲ ਮਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਬੀਨ ॥
ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਬੀਨ (ਰਾਜ ਕੁਮਾਰੀ) ਨੇ ਫੁਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਾਲਾ ਪਕੜ ਕੇ,
ਉਰਿ ਡਾਰ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਦੀਨ ॥
The princess caught the wreath of flowers and put it around the neck of the king and
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਗਲ ਵਿਚ ਪਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ।
ਤਬ ਬਾਜ ਤੂਰ ਅਨੇਕ ॥
ਉਸ ਵੇਲੇ ਖ਼ਾਸ ਕਰ ਕੇ
ਡਫ ਬੀਣ ਬੇਣ ਬਸੇਖ ॥੯੦॥
At that time many musical instruments including the lyre were played.90.
ਡਫ਼, ਬੀਨ, ਬੇਣ ਅਤੇ ਤੂਰ ਆਦਿ ਵਜੇ ਵਜਣ ਲਗੇ ॥੯੦॥
ਡਫ ਬਾਜ ਢੋਲ ਮ੍ਰਿਦੰਗ ॥
ਡਫ, ਢੋਲ, ਮ੍ਰਿਦੰਗ,
ਅਤਿ ਤੂਰ ਤਾਨ ਤਰੰਗ ॥
The tabor, drum, kettledrum and many other musical instruments of various tunes and tones were played
ਤੂਰ, ਤਾਨ, ਤਰੰਗ, ਨਵੀਂ ਬੰਸੁਰੀ ਆਦਿ ਵਾਜੇ ਵਜਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਨਯ ਬਾਸੁਰੀ ਅਰੁ ਬੈਨ ॥
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਤਾਨ ਨਾਲ ਬੋਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਕੇ
ਬਹੁ ਸੁੰਦਰੀ ਸੁਭ ਨੈਨ ॥੯੧॥
The flutes were played and there were many beautiful ladies of charming eyes seated there.91.
ਬਹੁਤ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ੁਭ ਨੈਣਾਂ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ (ਇਸਤਰੀਆਂ ਗਾਉਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ) ॥੯੧॥
ਤਿਹ ਬਿਆਹਿ ਕੈ ਅਜਿ ਰਾਜਿ ॥
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਅਜ ਰਾਜਾ ਵਿਆਹ ਕੇ
ਬਹੁ ਭਾਤਿ ਲੈ ਕਰ ਦਾਜ ॥
The king Aj wedded that damsel and taking various types of dowry and
ਅਤੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਾਜ ਲੈ ਕੇ
ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਆਈਆ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਇ ॥
ਅਤੇ ਸੁਖ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਕੇ
ਡਫ ਬੇਣ ਬੀਣ ਬਜਾਇ ॥੯੨॥
Causing the tabor and lyre to be played, he retuned home with great happiness.92.
ਡਫ, ਬੇਣ ਅਤੇ ਬੀਨ ਵਜਾਉਂਦਾ ਘਰ ਆ ਗਿਆ ॥੯੨॥
ਅਜਿ ਰਾਜ ਰਾਜ ਮਹਾਨ ॥
ਅਜ ਰਾਜ ਬਹੁਤ ਮਹਾਨ ਰਾਜਾ ਹੈ
ਦਸ ਚਾਰਿ ਚਾਰਿ ਨਿਧਾਨ ॥
The king expert in eighteen sciences, was the ocean of pleasure and store of gentleness
ਅਤੇ ਅਠਾਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਿਧੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹੈ।
ਸੁਖ ਸਿੰਧੁ ਸੀਲ ਸਮੁੰਦ੍ਰ ॥
ਉਹ ਸੁਖ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ੀਲ ਦਾ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਹੈ
ਜਿਨਿ ਜੀਤਿਆ ਰਣ ਰੁਦ੍ਰ ॥੯੩॥
He had conquered even Shiva in the war.93.
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਯੁੱਧ-ਭੂਮੀ ਵਿਚ ਰੁਦ੍ਰ ਨੂੰ ਜਿਤ ਲਿਆ ਸੀ ॥੯੩॥
ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਰਾਜ ਕਮਾਇ ॥
ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ (ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਰਾਜ ਕਮਾਇਆ
ਸਿਰਿ ਅਤ੍ਰ ਪਤ੍ਰ ਫਿਰਾਇ ॥
In this waay, he ruled and caused the canopy to be swung over his head and in the whole world,
ਅਤੇ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਛਤ੍ਰ ਝੁਲਵਾਇਆ।
ਰਣ ਧੀਰ ਰਾਜ ਬਿਸੇਖ ॥
ਉਹ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਰੂਪ ਵਿਚ ਰਣਧੀਰ ਹੈ।
ਜਗ ਕੀਨ ਜਾਸੁ ਭਿਖੇਖ ॥੯੪॥
The ceremonies regarding he divine kingship of that victorious king were performed.94.
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਰਾਜ ਤਿਲਕ ਵੇਲੇ ਯੱਗ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ॥੯੪॥
ਜਗਜੀਤ ਚਾਰਿ ਦਿਸਾਨ ॥
(ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਜਗਤ ਦੀਆਂ ਚੌਹਾਂ ਦਿਸ਼ਾਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਿਤ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਅਜਿ ਰਾਜ ਰਾਜ ਮਹਾਨ ॥
The king Aj, after conquering all the four directions, gave charities of materials as a generous king
ਅਜ ਰਾਜਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਮਹਾਨ ਰਾਜਾ ਹੈ।
ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਦਾਨ ਸੀਲ ਪਹਾਰ ॥
(ਉਹ) ਰਾਜਾ ਦਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ੀਲ ਦਾ ਪਹਾੜ ਹੈ।
ਦਸ ਚਾਰਿ ਚਾਰਿ ਉਦਾਰ ॥੯੫॥
Being expert in all sciences, that king was extremely benevolent.95.
ਉਹ ਅਠਾਰ੍ਹਾਂ (ਵਿਦਿਆਵਾਂ) ਵਿਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਉਦਾਰ ਹੈ ॥੯੫॥
ਦੁਤਿਵੰਤਿ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਨੈਨ ॥
ਸੁੰਦਰ ਚਮਕ ਦਮਕ ਵਾਲਾ ਅਤੇ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਨੈਣਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ,
ਜਿਹ ਪੇਖਿ ਖਿਝਤ ਮੈਨ ॥
His eyes and body were so charming, hat even the god of love felt jealous
ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਕਾਮਦੇਵ ਵੀ ਖਿਝਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮੁਖ ਦੇਖਿ ਚੰਦ੍ਰ ਸਰੂਪ ॥
(ਉਸ ਦਾ) ਮੁਖ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾ ਵਰਗਾ ਦਿਖਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਚਿਤ ਸੋ ਚੁਰਾਵਤ ਭੂਪ ॥੯੬॥
Hundreds of kings evaded him, seeing the moonlike beauty of his face.96.
(ਉਹ) ਰਾਜਾ ਚਿਤ ਨੂੰ ਚੁਰਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੯੬॥
ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਕੈ ਬਡ ਰਾਜ ॥
ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਵੱਡਾ ਰਾਜ ਕੀਤਾ
ਬਹੁ ਜਗ ਧਰਮ ਸਮਾਜ ॥
In this way, the king ruled like a great sovereign in the world doing religious and social services and performing Yajnas
ਅਤੇ ਧਰਮ ਦੇ ਸਮਾਜ ਸਹਿਤ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਯੱਗ ਕੀਤੇ।
ਜਉ ਕਹੋ ਸਰਬ ਬਿਚਾਰ ॥
ਜੇ ਸਾਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਗ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਪੂਰਵਕ ਕਹਾਂ
ਇਕ ਹੋਤ ਕਥਾ ਪਸਾਰ ॥੯੭॥
If I narrate all the things associated with him, the story will be greatly increased.97.
ਤਾਂ (ਇਸ) ਇਕ ਕਥਾ ਦਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਵਿਸਤਾਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ ॥੯੭॥
ਤਿਹ ਤੇ ਸੁ ਥੋਰੀਐ ਬਾਤ ॥
ਇਸ ਲਈ ਥੋੜੀ ਹੀ ਗੱਲ (ਕਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ)।
ਸੁਨਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਭਾਖੋ ਭ੍ਰਾਤ ॥
Therefore, I say in brief, O brothers! listen to it
ਹੇ ਭਰਾਓ! (ਧਿਆਨ ਨਾਲ) ਸੁਣ ਲਵੋ।
ਬਹੁ ਜਗ ਧਰਮ ਸਮਾਜ ॥
(ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਧਰਮ ਤੇ ਸਮਾਜ ਸਹਿਤ ਬਹੁਤ ਯੱਗ ਕੀਤੇ।
ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਕੈ ਅਜਿ ਰਾਜ ॥੯੮॥
The king Aj ruled in this way in various ways in religions and society.98.
ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਅਜ ਰਾਜਾ ਨੇ (ਰਾਜ) ਕੀਤਾ ॥੯੮॥
ਜਗ ਆਪਨੋ ਅਜਿ ਮਾਨ ॥
ਅਜ ਰਾਜਾ ਨੇ ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੰਨ ਲਿਆ ਸੀ।
ਤਰਿ ਆਖ ਆਨ ਨ ਆਨ ॥
He abandoned the idea of considering the whole world as his own and did not care for anyone
ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਅੱਖ ਥਲੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਿਆਉਂਦਾ ਸੀ।
ਤਬ ਕਾਲ ਕੋਪ ਕ੍ਰਵਾਲ ॥
ਤਦੋਂ ਕਾਲ ਦੇ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਦੀ ਤਲਵਾਰ ('ਕ੍ਰਵਾਲ') (ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਹੋਈ)
ਅਜਿ ਜਾਰੀਆ ਮਧਿ ਜ੍ਵਾਲ ॥੯੯॥
Then the great Death, in great rage, reduced king Aj to ashes in his fire.99.
ਅਤੇ ਅਜ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਅਗਨੀ ਵਿਚ ਸਾੜ ਦਿੱਤਾ ॥੯੯॥
ਅਜਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਨ ॥
ਅਜ ਰਾਜੇ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ (ਮਹਾਨ) ਜੋਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਗਈ।
ਤਬ ਸਰਬ ਦੇਖਿ ਡਰਾਨ ॥
Seeing the king Aj merging in the supreme Light, all the people became fearful like the passengers of a boat without the sailor
ਤਦ ਸਭ ਲੋਕ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਡਰ ਗਏ।
ਜਿਮ ਨਾਵ ਖੇਵਟ ਹੀਨ ॥
(ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਥਿਤੀ ਇਸ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਸੀ) ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੌਕਾ ਮਲਾਹ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ
ਜਿਮ ਦੇਹ ਅਰਬਲ ਛੀਨ ॥੧੦੦॥
The people became weak like the individual becoming helpless with the loss of physical strength.100.
ਅਤੇ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਦੇਹੀ ਉਮਰ ('ਅਰਬਲ') ਦੇ ਖ਼ਤਮ ਹੋਣ ਤੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧੦੦॥
ਜਿਮ ਗਾਵ ਰਾਵ ਬਿਹੀਨ ॥
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਰਾਓ (ਚੌਧਰੀ) ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਪਿੰਡ ਹੈ,
ਜਿਮ ਉਰਬਰਾ ਕ੍ਰਿਸ ਛੀਨ ॥
Just as a village becomes helpless without a headman, the earth becomes meaningless without fertility,
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਖੇਤੀ ਦੇ ਕਟੇ ਜਾਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਉਪਜਾਊ ਧਰਤੀ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਮ ਦਿਰਬ ਹੀਣ ਭੰਡਾਰ ॥
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਧਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹੈ,
ਜਿਮ ਸਾਹਿ ਹੀਣ ਬਿਪਾਰ ॥੧੦੧॥
The treasure loses charm without wealth and the trader becomes in low spirit without the trade.101.
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਬਪਾਰ ਹੈ ॥੧੦੧॥
ਜਿਮ ਅਰਥ ਹੀਣ ਕਬਿਤ ॥
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਅਰਥ ਤੋਂ ਵਿਛੁੰਨੀ ਕਵਿਤਾ ਹੈ,
ਬਿਨੁ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕੇ ਜਿਮ ਮਿਤ ॥
Without the king, the people became like poetry without meaning, friend without love,
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਿਤਰ ਹੈ,
ਜਿਮ ਰਾਜ ਹੀਣ ਸੁ ਦੇਸ ॥
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਰਾਜੇ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਦੇਸ਼ ਹੈ,
ਜਿਮ ਸੈਣ ਹੀਨ ਨਰੇਸ ॥੧੦੨॥
The country without the king and as the army becomes helpless without the general.102.
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਸੈਨਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਰਾਜਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੦੨॥
ਜਿਮ ਗਿਆਨ ਹੀਣ ਜੁਗੇਾਂਦ੍ਰ ॥
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਗਿਆਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਜੋਗੀ ਹੈ,
ਜਿਮ ਭੂਮ ਹੀਣ ਮਹੇਾਂਦ੍ਰ ॥
That state becomes like a Yogi without knowledge, a king without kingdom,
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਭੂਮੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਰਾਜਾ ਹੈ,
ਜਿਮ ਅਰਥ ਹੀਣ ਬਿਚਾਰ ॥
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਅਰਥ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਹੈ,
ਜਿਮ ਦਰਬ ਹੀਣ ਉਦਾਰ ॥੧੦੩॥
The idea without the meaning and the donor without the material.103.
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਧਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਉਦਾਰ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਹੈ ॥੧੦੩॥
ਜਿਮ ਅੰਕੁਸ ਹੀਣ ਗਜੇਸ ॥
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਅੰਕੁਸ਼ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਹਾਥੀ ਹੈ,
ਜਿਮ ਸੈਣ ਹੀਣ ਨਰੇਸ ॥
The people became like an elephant without a goad, the king without the army,
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਸੈਨਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਰਾਜਾ ਹੈ,
ਜਿਮ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਹੀਣ ਲੁਝਾਰ ॥
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਸ਼ਸਤ੍ਰ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਯੋਧਾ ਹੈ,
ਜਿਮ ਬੁਧਿ ਬਾਝ ਬਿਚਾਰ ॥੧੦੪॥
The warrior without weapons and the ideas without wiseom.104.
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਬੁੱਧੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਹੈ ॥੧੦੪॥
ਜਿਮ ਨਾਰਿ ਹੀਣ ਭਤਾਰ ॥
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਨਾਰੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਪਤੀ ਹੈ,
ਜਿਮ ਕੰਤ ਹੀਣ ਸੁ ਨਾਰ ॥
They are just like the wife without husband, the woman without beloved,
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕੰਤ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਨਾਰੀ ਹੈ,
ਜਿਮ ਬੁਧਿ ਹੀਣ ਕਬਿਤ ॥
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਬੁੱਧੀ ਤੋਂ ਹੀਣੀ ਕਬਿੱਤ ਹੈ,
ਜਿਮ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਹੀਣ ਸੁ ਮਿਤ ॥੧੦੫॥
The poetry without wisdom and the friend without love.105.
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਤੋਂ ਸਖਣਾ ਮਿਤਰ ਹੈ ॥੧੦੫॥
ਜਿਮ ਦੇਸ ਭੂਪ ਬਿਹੀਨ ॥
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਦੇਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਰਾਜਾ ਹੈ,
ਬਿਨੁ ਕੰਤ ਨਾਰਿ ਅਧੀਨ ॥
They are just like the country becoming desolate, the women losing their husbands,
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਨਾਰੀ ਅਧੀਨ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਜਿਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਬਿਪ੍ਰ ਅਬਿਦਿ ॥
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਅਨਪੜ੍ਹ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਜਿਮ ਅਰਥ ਹੀਣ ਸਬਿਦਿ ॥੧੦੬॥
The Brahmins without learning or the men without wealth.106.
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਅਰਥ (ਗਿਆਨ) ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਵਿਦਵਾਨ ਹੈ ॥੧੦੬॥
ਤੇ ਕਹੇ ਸਰਬ ਨਰੇਸ ॥
ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਕਹੇ ਹਨ
ਜੇ ਆ ਗਏ ਇਹ ਦੇਸਿ ॥
In this way, the kings, who ruled over this country, how can they be described?
ਜੋ ਇਸ ਦੇਸ ਵਿਚ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ।
ਕਰਿ ਅਸਟ ਦਸ੍ਰਯ ਪੁਰਾਨਿ ॥
(ਬਿਆਸ ਨੇ) ਅਠਾਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਪੁਰਾਣ ਬਣਾਏ ਹਨ।
ਦਿਜ ਬਿਆਸ ਬੇਦ ਨਿਧਾਨ ॥੧੦੭॥
Vyas, the store of Vedic learning, composed eighteen Puranas.107.
ਬਿਆਸ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਵੇਦਾਂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੦੭॥
ਕੀਨੇ ਅਠਾਰਹ ਪਰਬ ॥
(ਫਿਰ) ਉਸ ਨੇ (ਮਹਾਭਾਰਤ) ਦੇ ਅਠਾਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਪਰਬ ਬਣਾਏ ਹਨ,
ਜਗ ਰੀਝੀਆ ਸੁਨਿ ਸਰਬ ॥
He composed eighteen parvas (parts of Mahabharata), listening which th whole world was pleased
(ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਸੁਣ ਕ ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਰੀਝ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਇਹ ਬਿਆਸ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਵਤਾਰ ॥
ਇਹ ਬਿਆਸ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਦਾ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਹੈ।
ਭਏ ਪੰਚਮੋ ਮੁਖ ਚਾਰ ॥੧੦੮॥
In this way Vyas was the fifth incarnation of Brahma.108.
