ਚੌਪਈ:
ਕੈਧੌ ਜੂਝਿ ਖੇਤ ਮੈ ਮਰਿਯੋ ॥
ਜਾਂ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਯੁੱਧ ਵਿਚ ਲੜ ਮਰਿਆ ਹੈ,
ਕੈਧੌ ਤ੍ਰਸਤ ਦਰੀ ਮਹਿ ਦੁਰਿਯੋ ॥
‘Either he has been killed in the war or, being scared, has gone under hiding.
ਜਾਂ ਡਰਦਾ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਗੁਫਾ ਵਿਚ ਜਾ ਲੁਕਿਆ ਹੈ,
ਭਜਿਯੋ ਜੁਧ ਤੇ ਅਧਿਕ ਲਜਾਯੋ ॥
ਜਾਂ ਯੁੱਧ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਭਜਣ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਸ਼ਰਮਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਅਤਿਥ ਗਯੋ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਧਾਮ ਨ ਆਯੋ ॥੪॥
‘Either, being ashamed of himself, he has run away from the fight or has become an ascetIc an gone mto a cave.’ (4)
ਜਾਂ ਜੋਗੀ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਘਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਇਆ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
