ਸਵੈਯਾ:

ਮੰਦਲ ਤੂਰ ਮ੍ਰਿਦੰਗ ਮੁਚੰਗਨ ਕੀ ਧੁਨਿ ਕੈ ਲਲਕਾਰਿ ਪਰੇ ॥

To the beats of Nigara, Mirdang, Muchang and other drums, the dauntless ones flung forward.

ਢੋਲ, ਤੂਰ, ਮ੍ਰਿਦੰਗ ਅਤੇ ਮੁਚੰਗਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੁਨੀ ਨਾਲ (ਸੂਰਮੇ) ਲਲਕਾਰ ਕੇ ਪੈ ਗਏ।

ਅਰੁ ਮਾਨ ਭਰੇ ਮਿਲਿ ਆਨਿ ਅਰੇ ਨ ਗੁਮਾਨ ਕੌ ਛਾਡਿ ਕੈ ਪੈਗੁ ਟਰੇ ॥

Filled with self-esteem and confidence, they did not take even one step back.

(ਉਹ) ਹੰਕਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਭਰੇ ਹੋਏ, ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਆ ਡਟੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਛਡ ਕੇ ਕਦਮ ਪਿਛੇ ਹਟਾਂਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ।

ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਜਮ ਜਦਿਪ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਹਰੇ ਨ ਮੁਰੇ ਤਬ ਲੌ ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਅਰੇ ॥

The angel of death tried to take their lives away, but they remained in the combats, undeterred.

ਭਾਵੇਂ ਜਮ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਹਰ ਲਏ ਹੋਣ, ਤਦ ਵੀ ਉਹ ਮੁੜਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ, (ਪੂਰੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਡਟੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ।

ਜੇਨ ਮਿਟੇ ਬਿਕਟੇ ਭਟ ਕਾਹੂ ਸੋਂ ਬਾਸਵ ਸੌ ਕਬਹੂੰ ਨ ਪਛੇਲੇ ॥

The heroes who did not succumbed to death, and who could not be subjugated even by Indra, jumped into the fight,

ਜਿਹੜੇ ਵਿਕਟ ਸੂਰਮੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਤੋਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਟੇ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਇੰਦਰ ('ਬਾਸਵ') ਵਰਗੇ (ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਪਿਛੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਧਕ ਸਕੇ ਸਨ।

ਤੇ ਗਰਜੇ ਜਬ ਹੀ ਰਨ ਮੈ ਗਨ ਭਾਜਿ ਚਲੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਆਪੁ ਅਕੇਲੇ ॥

Then, O Goddess Kali, without your help, all the brave (enemies) took to their heels.

ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਰਣ-ਭੂਮੀ ਵਿਚ ਗਜੇ ਤਾਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਾਲੀ ਦੇਵੀ ਦੇ ਹੋਰ ਸਭ ਭਜ ਗਏ।

ਤੇ ਕੁਪਿ ਕਾਲਿ ਕਟੇ ਝਟ ਕੈ ਕਦਲੀ ਬਨ ਜ︀ਯੋਂ ਧਰਨੀ ਪਰ ਮੇਲੇ ॥

Kali, herself, decapitated them like the banana trees are cropped, and they are thrown on the earth,

ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਲੀ ਨੇ ਕ੍ਰੋਧਿਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਕਟ ਕੇ ਸੁਟ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕੇਲੇ ਦੇ ਬਨ ਨੂੰ ਧਰਤੀ ਉਤੇ (ਕਟ ਕੇ) ਵਿਛਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
