ਅਥ ਸਾਹ ਬੀਸਵੋ ਗੁਰੁ ਕਥਨੰ ॥
Now begins the description of the adoption of a Trader as the Twentieth Guru
ਹੁਣ 'ਸ਼ਾਹ' ਵੀਹਵੇਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਕਥਨ

ਚੌਪਈ:
ਆਗੇ ਚਲਾ ਦਤ ਜਟ ਧਾਰੀ ॥
ਜਟਾਧਾਰੀ ਦੱਤ ਅਗੇ ਨੂੰ ਤੁਰ ਚਲਿਆ।
ਬੇਜਤ ਬੇਣ ਬਿਖਾਨ ਅਪਾਰੀ ॥
Then Dutt, the wearer of matted locks moved further
(ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ) ਅਪਾਰ ਰਣਸਿੰਗੇ ਅਤੇ ਵਾਜੇ ਵਜਦੇ ਸਨ।
ਅਸਥਾਵਰ ਲਖਿ ਚੇਤਨ ਭਏ ॥
(ਇਸ ਸਥਿਤੀ ਅਥਵਾ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ ਨੂੰ) ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਜੜ ਚੇਤਨ ਹੋ ਗਏ
ਚੇਤਨ ਦੇਖ ਚਕ੍ਰਿਤ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਗਏ ॥੪੩੮॥
The musical instruments were being played seeing Dutt. The inanimate things were becoming animate and the animate were wonder-struck.438.
ਅਤੇ ਚੇਤਨ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਹੈਰਾਨ ਹੋ ਗਏ ॥੪੩੮॥
ਮਹਾ ਰੂਪ ਕਛੁ ਕਹਾ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
ਮਹਾਨ ਰੂਪ ਹੈ, ਕੁਝ ਕਿਹਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ,
ਨਿਰਖਿ ਚਕ੍ਰਿਤ ਰਹੀ ਸਕਲ ਲੁਕਾਈ ॥
His great beauty was indescribable, seeing which all the world was in astonishment
(ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ) ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਸਾਰੀ ਲੁਕਾਈ ਹੈਰਾਨ ਹੋ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਤ ਜਿਤ ਜਾਤ ਪਥਹਿ ਰਿਖਿ ਗ︀ਯੋ ॥
ਜਿਸ ਜਿਸ ਮਾਰਗ ਉਤੇ ਰਿਸ਼ੀ ਗਿਆ,
ਜਾਨੁਕ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਮੇਘ ਬਰਖ੍ਰਯੋ ॥੪੩੯॥
The paths on which the sage went, it appeared that the cloud of love was raining.439.
(ਉਥੇ) ਮਾਨੋ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦਾ ਬਦਲ ਵਰ੍ਹ ਪਿਆ ॥੪੩੯॥
ਤਹ ਇਕ ਲਖਾ ਸਾਹ ਧਨਵਾਨਾ ॥
ਉਥੇ (ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਇਕ ਧਨਵਾਨ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਵੇਖਿਆ
ਮਹਾ ਰੂਪ ਧਰਿ ਦਿਰਬ ਨਿਧਾਨਾ ॥
There he saw a wealthy trader, was extremely comely and treasure of money and materials
(ਜੋ) ਮਹਾਨ ਰੂਪ ਵਾਲਾ ਅਤੇ ਦੌਲਤ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਵਾਲਾ ਸੀ।
ਮਹਾ ਜੋਤਿ ਅਰੁ ਤੇਜ ਅਪਾਰੂ ॥
(ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਮੁਖ ਤੇ) ਮਹਾਨ ਜੋਤਿ ਅਤੇ ਅਪਾਰ ਤੇਜ ਸੀ।
ਆਪ ਘੜਾ ਜਾਨੁਕ ਮੁਖਿ ਚਾਰੂ ॥੪੪੦॥
He was supremely splendid and it appeared that Brahma himself had created him.440.
(ਇੰਜ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਸੀ) ਮਾਨੋ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਘੜਿਆ ਹੋਵੇ ॥੪੪੦॥
ਬਿਕ੍ਰਿਅ ਬੀਚ ਅਧਿਕ ਸਵਧਾਨਾ ॥
(ਸੌਦਾ) ਵੇਚਣ ਵਿਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਵਧਾਨ ਸੀ,
ਬਿਨੁ ਬਿਪਾਰ ਜਿਨ ਅਉਰ ਨ ਜਾਨਾ ॥
He was extremely conscious about his sale and it seemed that he did not know anything else except trade
ਉਹ ਬਪਾਰ ਤੋਂ ਭਿੰਨ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਗੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਸੀ।
ਆਸ ਅਨੁਰਕਤ ਤਾਸੁ ਬ੍ਰਿਤ ਲਾਗਾ ॥
ਉਸ ਦੀ ਬਿਰਤੀ ਆਸ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਪੂਰੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਲਗੀ ਹੋਈ ਸੀ।
ਮਾਨਹੁ ਮਹਾ ਜੋਗ ਅਨੁਰਾਗਾ ॥੪੪੧॥
Absorbed in desires his attention was solely engrossed in trade and he was looking like a great Yogi.441.
(ਇੰਜ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਸੀ) ਮਾਨੋ ਉਹ ਯੋਗ ਦੀ ਅਤਿ ਲਗਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੋਵੇ ॥੪੪੧॥
ਤਹਾ ਰਿਖਿ ਗਏ ਸੰਗਿ ਸੰਨ︀ਯਾਸਨ ॥
ਸੰਨਿਆਸੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਲ ਲਈ ਰਿਸ਼ੀ ਉਥੇ ਜਾ ਪਹੁੰਚਿਆ,
ਕਈ ਛੋਹਨੀ ਜਾਤ ਨਹੀ ਗਨਿ ॥
The sage reached there alongwith Sannyasis and innumerable disciples
(ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਨਿਆਸੀਆਂ) ਦੀਆਂ ਕਈ ਛੋਹਣੀਆਂ ਸਨ, (ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ) ਗਿਣਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ ਸੀ।
ਤਾ ਕੇ ਜਾਇ ਦੁਆਰ ਪਰ ਬੈਠੇ ॥
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦੁਆਰ ਉਤੇ ਜਾ ਬੈਠੇ
ਸਕਲ ਮੁਨੀ ਮੁਨੀਰਾਜ ਇਕੈਠੇ ॥੪੪੨॥
The great sage Dutt sat at the gate of that trader alongwith many other sages.442.
ਸਾਰੇ ਮੁਨੀ ਰਾਜ ਨਾਲ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਹੋ ਕੇ ॥੪੪੨॥
ਸਾਹ ਸੁ ਦਿਰਬ ਬ੍ਰਿਤ ਲਗ ਰਹਾ ॥
(ਉਸ) ਸ਼ਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਿਰਤੀ ਧਨ ਦੌਲਤ ਵਿਚ ਲਗੀ ਹੋਈ ਸੀ।
ਰਿਖਨ ਓਰ ਤਿਨ ਚਿਤ੍ਰਯੋ ਨ ਕਹਾ ॥
The mind of the trader was so much absorbed in earning money that he did not pay attention to the sages even slightly
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਰਿਸ਼ੀ ਵਲ ਧਿਆਨ ਹੀ ਨਾ ਕੀਤਾ।
ਨੇਤ੍ਰ ਮੀਚ ਏਕੈ ਧਨ ਆਸਾ ॥
ਇਕ ਧਨ ਦੀ ਆਸ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਨੇਤਰ ਮੀਚੇ ਹੋਏ ਸਨ।
ਐਸ ਜਾਨੀਅਤ ਮਹਾ ਉਦਾਸਾ ॥੪੪੩॥
With closed eyes he was immersed in the expectation of money like a detached hermit.443.
ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਲਗਦਾ ਸੀ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਮਹਾਨ ਉਦਾਸ (ਵਿਰਕਤ) ਸੀ ॥੪੪੩॥
ਤਹ ਜੇ ਹੁਤੇ ਰਾਵ ਅਰੁ ਰੰਕਾ ॥
ਉਥੇ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਅਮੀਰ ਅਤੇ ਗ਼ਰੀਬ ਸਨ,
ਮੁਨਿ ਪਗ ਪਰੇ ਛੋਰ ਕੈ ਸੰਕਾ ॥
(ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਮਨ ਦੀ) ਸ਼ੰਕਾ ਛਡ ਕੇ ਮੁਨੀ ਦੇ ਪੈਰੀਂ ਪੈ ਗਏ।
ਤਿਹ ਬਿਪਾਰ ਕਰਮ ਕਰ ਭਾਰੀ ॥
(ਪਰ) ਉਸ ਦਾ ਬਪਾਰ ਦਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਕੰਮ ਸੀ,
ਰਿਖੀਅਨ ਓਰ ਨ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਪਸਾਰੀ ॥੪੪੪॥
All the kings and poor people who were there, leaving all their doubts fell dwon at the feet of the sages, but that trader was so much immersed in his work that he did not even raise his eyes and see towards the sages.444.
(ਇਸ ਲਈ) ਉਸ ਨੇ ਰਿਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਵਲ ਅੱਖ ਖੋਲ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਨਾ ਵੇਖੀ ॥੪੪੪॥
ਤਾਸੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਕਰਿ ਦਤ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਊ ॥
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਦੱਤ ਨੇ
ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਕਹਾ ਤਜ ਕੈ ਹਠ ਭਾਊ ॥
ਹਠ ਛਡ ਕੇ ਸਪਸ਼ਟ ਕਿਹਾ,
ਐਸ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੰਗ ਲਗਈਐ ॥
ਜੇ ਇਸ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਲਗਾਇਆ ਜਾਏ,
ਤਬ ਹੀ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਪੁਰਾਤਨ ਪਈਐ ॥੪੪੫॥
Dutt looking at his position and impact, leaving his persistence, said openly, “If such a love is employed with the Lord, then that supreme Lord can be realized.”445.
ਤਦ ਹੀ ਪੁਰਾਤਨ ਪੁਰਖ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪੪੫॥
