ਚੌਪਈ:
ਉਰਬਸਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਤ ਹੁਤੀ ਸੁ ਨਗਰ ਮੈ ॥
ਉਰਵਸ਼ੀ ਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਇਕ ਨਾਚੀ (ਜਾਂ ਵੇਸਵਾ) ਉਸ ਨਗਰ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਸੀ
ਨਾਚਤ ਹੁਤੀ ਕਾਲ ਕੇ ਘਰ ਮੈ ॥
In the same domain, lived a prostitute named Urvassi, who used to dance in the house of Kaal, the god of death.
(ਜੋ) ਕਾਲ (ਯਮਰਾਜ) ਦੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਨਚਦੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਸੀ।
ਤਿਹ ਬੀਰੋ ਤਿਹ ਸਭਾ ਉਚਾਯੋ ॥
ਉਸ ਨੇ (ਇਹ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ) ਬੀੜਾ ਉਸ ਸਭਾ ਵਿਚ ਚੁਕਿਆ
ਸਕਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਕੋ ਭੇਖ ਬਣਾਯੋ ॥੩॥
In the Council, she took the responsibility of this cause by disguising herself as a man.(3)
ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰਾ ਮਰਦਾਵਾਂ ਭੇਸ ਬਣਾ ਲਿਆ ॥੩॥
