ਚੌਪਈ:
ਕਥਾ ਏਕ ਸ੍ਰਵਨਨ ਹਮ ਸੁਨੀ ॥
ਅਸੀਂ ਇਕ ਕਥਾ ਕੰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸੁਣੀ ਹੈ
ਹਰਿਯਾਬਾਦ ਏਕ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਗੁਨੀ ॥
This is a story, which we heard with our own ears. In Haryabad a woman used to live.
ਕਿ ਹਰਿਯਾਬਾਦ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਗੁਣਵਾਨ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਸੀ।
ਬਾਦਲ ਕੁਅਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਤਿਹ ਕੌ ॥

ਬਾਦਲ ਕੁਅਰਿ ਦੇ ਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੂੰ
ਜਾਨਤ ਹੈ ਸਿਗਰੌ ਜਗ ਜਿਹ ਕੌ ॥੧॥
Her name was Baadal Kumari; she was known all over the world.(1)
ਸਾਰਾ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਸੀ ॥੧॥
ਏਕ ਮੁਗਲ ਤਿਨ ਧਾਮ ਬੁਲਾਯੋ ॥
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਇਕ ਮੁਗ਼ਲ ਨੂੰ ਘਰ ਬੁਲਾਇਆ
ਆਛੋ ਭੋਜਨ ਤਾਹਿ ਖਵਾਯੋ ॥
She invited a Mughal at her house and served him dainty foods.
ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਭੋਜਨ ਖੁਆਇਆ।
ਤਾਹਿ ਭਜਨ ਕਹ ਹਾਥ ਪਸਾਰਾ ॥
ਉਸ (ਮੁਗ਼ਲ ਨੇ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨਾਲ) ਭੋਗ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਹੱਥ ਵਧਾਇਆ,
ਤਬ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਤਾਹਿ ਜੂਤਿਯਨ ਮਾਰਾ ॥੨॥
She invited him for making love then she beat him with shoes (and he fainted).(2)
ਤਾਂ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਜੁਤੀਆਂ ਮਾਰਨ ਲਗੀ ਗਈ ॥੨॥
ਮਾਰਿ ਮੁਗਲ ਕੂਕਤ ਇਮਿ ਧਾਈ ॥
She invited him for making love then she beat him with shoes (and he fainted).(2)
ਮੁਗ਼ਲ ਨੂੰ ਕੁਟਾਪਾ ਚੜ੍ਹਾ ਕੇ ਕੂਕਦੀ ਹੋਈ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੌੜੀ
ਯਹ ਸੁਨਿ ਬੈਨ ਪ੍ਰਜਾ ਮਿਲਿ ਆਈ ॥
After beating Mughal she ran out shouting, hearing which people gathered.
ਕਿ (ਉਸ ਦੀ) ਆਵਾਜ਼ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਲੋਕੀਂ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਆ ਗਏ।
ਕਰਿ ਸਮੋਧ ਤਿਨ ਧਾਮ ਪਠਯੋ ॥
After beating Mughal she ran out shouting, hearing which people gathered.
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਾ ਕੇ ਅਤੇ ਇਹ ਕਹਿ ਕੇ ਘਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਤਾਇਆ
ਯਾ ਕੇ ਕੰਠ ਟੂਕ ਫਸਿ ਗਯੋ ॥੩॥
She told them that he had choked with a piece of loaf in his throat.(3)
ਕਿ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਗਲੇ ਵਿਚ ਰੋਟੀ ਫਸ ਗਈ ਸੀ ॥੩॥
