ਅਥ ਭ੍ਰਿਤ ਤ੍ਰੋਦਸਮੋ ਗੁਰੂ ਕਥਨੰ ॥
Now begins the description of an Orderly as the Thirteenth Guru
ਹੁਣ ਦਾਸ ਰੂਪ ਤੇਰ੍ਹਵੇਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਕਥਨ
ਤੋਮਰ ਛੰਦ ॥
TOMAR STANZA
ਤੋਮਰ ਛੰਦ:
ਤਬ ਦਤ ਦੇਵ ਮਹਾਨ ॥
ਤਦ ਮਹਾਨ ਦੱਤ ਦੇਵ
ਦਸ ਚਾਰ ਚਾਰ ਨਿਧਾਨ ॥
Then the great Dutt, who was a treasure in eighteen sciences and
ਜੋ ਅਠਾਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਦਿਆਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹੈ,
ਅਤਿਭੁਤ ਉਤਮ ਗਾਤ ॥
ਅਦਭੁਤ ਉੱਤਮ ਸ਼ਰੀਰ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ,
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਲੇਤ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਤ ॥੨੭੦॥
Had a fine physique, used to remember the Name of the Lord at day-dawn.270.
ਪ੍ਰਭਾਤ ਵੇਲੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨੭੦॥
ਅਕਲੰਕ ਉਜਲ ਅੰਗ ॥
(ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਕਲੰਕ ਰਹਿਤ ਉਜਲੇ ਸ਼ਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ,
ਲਖਿ ਲਾਜ ਗੰਗ ਤਰੰਗ ॥
Seeing his bright and blemishless limbs, the waves of Ganges felt shy
ਗੰਗਾ ਦੀਆਂ ਲਹਿਰਾਂ ਲਜਾ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਹਨ।
ਅਨਭੈ ਅਭੂਤ ਸਰੂਪ ॥
ਭੈ ਤੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ, (ਪੰਜ) ਭੂਤਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ
ਲਖਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਲਾਜਤ ਭੂਪ ॥੨੭੧॥
Looking at his marvelous figure, the kings became shyful.271.
(ਦੱਤ ਦੀ) ਜੋਤਿ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਮਹਾਰਾਜੇ ਸ਼ਰਮਿੰਦੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੨੭੧॥
ਅਵਲੋਕਿ ਸੁ ਭ੍ਰਿਤ ਏਕ ॥
(ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਇਕ ਸੇਵਕ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਿਆ
ਗੁਨ ਮਧਿ ਜਾਸੁ ਅਨੇਕ ॥
He saw an orderly, who had many qualities, even at midnight, he was standing at the gate
ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਗੁਣ ਸਨ।
ਅਧਿ ਰਾਤਿ ਠਾਢਿ ਦੁਆਰਿ ॥
ਅੱਧ ਰਾਤ ਵੇਲੇ ਦੁਆਰ ਉਤੇ ਖੜੋਤਾ ਸੀ,
ਬਹੁ ਬਰਖ ਮੇਘ ਫੁਹਾਰ ॥੨੭੨॥
In this way, during the rainfall, he stood firmly without caring for the rain.272.
(ਉਸ ਵੇਲੇ) ਬਦਲਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਮੀਂਹ ਵਰ੍ਹ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ ॥੨੭੨॥
ਅਧਿ ਰਾਤਿ ਦਤ ਨਿਹਾਰਿ ॥
ਅੱਧੀ ਰਾਤ ਵੇਲੇ ਦੱਤ ਨੇ ਵੇਖਿਆ
ਗੁਣਵੰਤ ਬਿਕ੍ਰਮ ਅਪਾਰ ॥
ਕਿ ਅਪਾਰ ਗੁਣਵਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਬਲਵਾਨ (ਸੇਵਕ ਖੜੋਤਾ ਹੈ)
ਜਲ ਮੁਸਲਧਾਰ ਪਰੰਤ ॥
ਅਤੇ ਮੂਸਲਾਧਾਰ ਬਾਰਸ਼ ਪੈ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ।
ਨਿਜ ਨੈਨ ਦੇਖਿ ਮਹੰਤ ॥੨੭੩॥
Dutt saw that Vikram-like individual full of qualities at midnight and he also saw that it was greatly pleased in his mind.273.
ਦੱਤ ('ਮਹੰਤ') ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਵੇਖ ਲਿਆ ॥੨੭੩॥
ਇਕ ਚਿਤ ਠਾਢ ਸੁ ਐਸ ॥
ਉਹ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਇਕ-ਚਿਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਖੜੋਤਾ ਸੀ
ਸੋਵਰਨ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਜੈਸ ॥
He seemed standing like a golden statue single-mindedly
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕੋਈ ਸੋਨੇ ਦੀ ਮੂਰਤੀ ਹੋਵੇ।
ਦ੍ਰਿੜ ਦੇਖਿ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਮਤਿ ॥
ਉਸ ਦੀ ਦ੍ਰਿੜ੍ਹ ਮਤ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ,
ਅਤਿ ਮਨਹਿ ਰੀਝੇ ਦਤ ॥੨੭੪॥
Seeing his concerntration, Dutt was greatly pleased in his mind. 274.
ਦੱਤ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋਇਆ ॥੨੭੪॥
ਨਹੀ ਸੀਤ ਮਾਨਤ ਘਾਮ ॥
ਠੰਡ ਅਤੇ ਧੁਪ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੰਨਦਾ ਹੈ
ਨਹੀ ਚਿਤ ਲ︀ਯਾਵਤ ਛਾਮ ॥
ਅਤੇ ਨਾ ਹੀ ਛਾਂ ਵਿਚ (ਖੜੋਣ ਦਾ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਧਿਆਨ ਲਿਆਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਹੀ ਨੈਕੁ ਮੋਰਤ ਅੰਗ ॥
(ਕਰਤੱਵ ਤੋਂ) ਬਿਲਕੁਲ ਅੰਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੋੜਦਾ।
ਇਕ ਪਾਇ ਠਾਢ ਅਭੰਗ ॥੨੭੫॥
He thought that this man was not caring for cold or hot weather and there is no desire of some shade in his mind he was standing on one foot without even slightly turning his limbs.275.
(ਉਹ) ਅਭੰਗ (ਸਰੂਪ ਵਾਲਾ) ਇਕ ਪੈਰ ਉਤੇ ਖੜੋਤਾ ਹੈ ॥੨੭੫॥
ਢਿਗ ਦਤ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਜਾਇ ॥
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਦੱਤ ਨੇ
ਅਵਿਲੋਕਿ ਤਾਸੁ ਬਨਾਏ ॥
Dutt went near him and looked down upon him, learning. a bit
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਅਧਿ ਰਾਤ੍ਰਿ ਨਿਰਜਨ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ॥
(ਉਹ) ਨਿਰਜਨ ਅਤੇ ਡਰਾਉਣੀ ਅੱਧੀ ਰਾਤ ਨੂੰ
ਅਸਿ ਲੀਨ ਠਾਢ ਉਦਾਸ ॥੨੭੬॥
He was standing detachedly in that desolate atmosphere at midnighgt.276.
ਤਲਵਾਰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਨਿਰਲਿਪਤ ਖੜਾ ਹੈ ॥੨੭੬॥
ਬਰਖੰਤ ਮੇਘ ਮਹਾਨ ॥
ਬਹੁਤ ਜ਼ਿਆਦਾ ਬਾਰਸ਼ ਹੋ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ।
ਭਾਜੰਤ ਭੂਮਿ ਨਿਧਾਨ ॥
It was raining and the water was spreading on the earth
ਭੂਮੀ ਅਤੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਵਾਲੇ ਵੀ ਭਿਜ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ (ਅਰਥਾਂਤਰ-ਭਜ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ)।
ਜਗਿ ਜੀਵ ਸਰਬ ਸੁ ਭਾਸ ॥
(ਇੰਜ) ਆਭਾਸ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ
ਉਠਿ ਭਾਜ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਉਦਾਸ ॥੨੭੭॥
All the beings of the world ran away in fear.277.
(ਬਾਰਸ਼ ਵਿਚ ਭਿਜਣ ਤੋਂ) ਡਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਉਠ ਕੇ ਭਜ ਗਏ ਹਨ ॥੨੭੭॥
ਇਹ ਠਾਢ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਪਉਰ ॥
(ਪਰ) ਇਹ (ਸੇਵਕ) ਰਾਜੇ ਦੇ ਦੁਆਰ ਉਤੇ ਖੜੋਤਾ ਹੈ
ਮਨ ਜਾਪ ਜਾਪਤ ਗਉਰ ॥
This orderly was standing at the gate of the king like this and was repeating the name of the goddess Gauri-Parvati in his mind
ਅਤੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਗ਼ੌਰ (ਧਿਆਨ) ਨਾਲ ਜਾਪ ਜਪਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਹੀ ਨੈਕੁ ਮੋਰਤ ਅੰਗ ॥
(ਉਹ ਕਰਤੱਵ ਪਾਲਣ ਤੋਂ) ਜ਼ਰਾ ਵੀ ਅੰਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੋੜਦਾ।
ਇਕ ਪਾਵ ਠਾਢ ਅਭੰਗ ॥੨੭੮॥
He was standing on one foot, without even slightly turning his limbs.278.
(ਉਹ) ਅਭੰਗ (ਸਰੂਪ ਵਾਲਾ) ਇਕ ਪੈਰ ਉਤੇ ਖੜੋਤਾ ਹੈ ॥੨੭੮॥
ਅਸਿ ਲੀਨ ਪਾਨਿ ਕਰਾਲ ॥
ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਲਈ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ।
ਚਮਕੰਤ ਉਜਲ ਜ੍ਵਾਲ ॥
A dreadful sword was shining in his hand like a flame of fire and
(ਉਹ ਤਲਵਾਰ) ਅਗਨੀ ਵਾਂਗ ਉਜਲੇ ਰੂਪ ਨਾਲ ਚਮਕ ਰਹੀ ਸੀ,
ਜਨ ਕਾਹੂ ਕੋ ਨਹੀ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ॥
ਮਾਨੋ ਉਹ ਕਿਸੇ ਦਾ ਵੀ ਮਿਤਰ ਨਾ ਹੋਵੇ।
ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਪਰਮ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ॥੨੭੯॥
He was standing solemnly without seeming to have friendliness for anyone.279.
ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ (ਉਹ) ਪਰਮ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੈ ॥੨੭੯॥
ਨਹੀ ਨੈਕੁ ਉਚਾਵਤ ਪਾਉ ॥
(ਉਹ) ਜ਼ਰਾ ਜਿੰਨਾ ਵੀ ਪੈਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਚੁਕਦਾ।
ਬਹੁ ਭਾਤਿ ਸਾਧਤ ਦਾਉ ॥
He was not even raising his foot slightly and he was in the posture of playing trick in many ways
ਬਹੁਤ ਢੰਗਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਕਰਤੱਵ ਨਿਭਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਅਨਆਸ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਭਗਤ ॥
ਬਿਨਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਆਸ ਦੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਦਾ ਭਗਤ ਸੀ।
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਏਕ ਹੀ ਰਸ ਪਗਤ ॥੨੮੦॥
He was a devotee of the king dyed unswervingly in the love of the Lord.280.
ਉਹ ਸੁਆਮੀ ('ਪ੍ਰਭ') ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਮਗਨ ਹੈ ॥੨੮੦॥
ਜਲ ਪਰਤ ਮੂਸਲਧਾਰ ॥
ਮੂਸਲਾਧਾਰ ਬਾਰਸ਼ ਹੋ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ,
ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਲੇ ਨ ਓਟਿ ਦੁਆਰ ॥
(ਪਰ ਫਿਰ ਵੀ ਉਹ) ਘਰ ਦੇ ਦਰਵਾਜ਼ੇ ਦੀ ਓਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੈਂਦਾ।
ਪਸੁ ਪਛ ਸਰਬਿ ਦਿਸਾਨ ॥
ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਦਿਸ਼ਾਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਸ਼ੂ ਅਤੇ ਪੰਛੀ
ਸਭ ਦੇਸ ਦੇਸ ਸਿਧਾਨ ॥੨੮੧॥
Because of heavy rain, all the animals and birds were going from various directions to their homes in order to take shelter.281.
ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਦੇਸਾਂ (ਭਾਵ ਠਿਕਾਣਿਆਂ) ਨੂੰ ਚਲੇ ਗਏ ਹਨ ॥੨੮੧॥
ਇਹ ਠਾਢ ਹੈ ਇਕ ਆਸ ॥
ਇਹ ਇਕ ਆਸ ਉਤੇ ਖੜੋਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਇਕ ਪਾਨ ਜਾਨ ਉਦਾਸ ॥
ਇਕ ਪੈਰ (ਉਤੇ) ਵਿਰਕਤ (ਭਾਵ ਨਾਲ ਖੜੋਤਾ ਹੈ)।
ਅਸਿ ਲੀਨ ਪਾਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਚੰਡ ॥
(ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਲਈ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ
ਅਤਿ ਤੇਜਵੰਤ ਅਖੰਡ ॥੨੮੨॥
He was standing detachedly on one foot and taking his sword in one of his hands, he was looking extremely lustrous.282.
(ਜੋ) ਬਹੁਤ ਸ਼ਕਤੀਸ਼ਾਲੀ ਅਤੇ ਨਾ ਟੁਟਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ ॥੨੮੨॥
ਮਨਿ ਆਨਿ ਕੋ ਨਹੀ ਭਾਵ ॥
ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਦਾ ਭਾਵ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ,
ਇਕ ਦੇਵ ਕੋ ਚਿਤ ਚਾਵ ॥
ਬਸ ਇਕ ਦੇਵ (ਸੁਆਮੀ) ਦਾ ਹੀ ਚਿਤ ਵਿਚ ਚਾਉ ਹੈ।
ਇਕ ਪਾਵ ਐਸੇ ਠਾਢ ॥
ਇਕ ਪੈਰ ਉਤੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਖੜੋਤਾ ਹੈ,
ਰਨ ਖੰਭ ਜਾਨੁਕ ਗਾਡ ॥੨੮੩॥
There was no other idea in his mind except his master and he was standing on one foot like a column standing in the battlefield.283.
ਮਾਨੋ ਰਣ-ਭੂਮੀ ਵਿਚ ਖੰਭਾ ਗਡਿਆ ਹੋਵੇ ॥੨੮੩॥
ਜਿਹ ਭੂਮਿ ਧਾਰਸ ਪਾਵ ॥
ਜਿਸ ਭੂਮੀ ਉਤੇ (ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਪੈਰ ਧਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ,
ਨਹੀ ਨੈਕੁ ਫੇਰਿ ਉਚਾਵ ॥
Wherever he placed his foot, he firmly fixed it there
(ਉਸ ਥਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਫਿਰ ਜ਼ਰਾ ਜਿੰਨਾ ਵੀ ਚੁਕਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
ਨਹੀ ਠਾਮ ਭੀਜਸ ਤਉਨ ॥
ਉਹ ਸਥਾਨ ਭਿਜ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ।
ਅਵਲੋਕ ਭਇਓ ਮੁਨਿ ਮਉਨ ॥੨੮੪॥
At his place, he was not getting wet and seeing him the sage Dutt kept silent.284.
(ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਮੁਨੀ (ਦੱਤ) ਚੁਪ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ॥੨੮੪॥
ਅਵਲੋਕਿ ਤਾਸੁ ਮੁਨੇਸ ॥
ਸ਼ਿਰੋਮਣੀ ਮੁਨੀ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਿਆ
ਅਕਲੰਕ ਭਾਗਵਿ ਭੇਸ ॥
The sage saw him and he seemed to him like a part of a blemishless moon
ਜੋ ਨਿਸ਼-ਕਲੰਕ ਭਗਵੇ ਭੇਸ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰੁ ਜਾਨਿ ਪਰੀਆ ਪਾਇ ॥
(ਉਸ ਸੇਵਕ ਨੂੰ) ਗੁਰੂ ਜਾਣ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪੈਰੀਂ ਪੈ ਗਿਆ
ਤਜਿ ਲਾਜ ਸਾਜ ਸਚਾਇ ॥੨੮੫॥
The sage abandoning his shyness and accepting him as his Guru, fell at his feet.285.
ਅਤੇ ਚਾਉ ਨਾਲ ਲਾਜ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਜ ਸਭ ਨੂੰ ਛਡ ਦਿੱਤਾ ॥੨੮੫॥
ਤਿਹ ਜਾਨ ਕੈ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ॥
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂਦੇਵ ਜਾਣ ਕੇ ਕਲੰਕ ਰਹਿਤ
ਅਕਲੰਕ ਦਤ ਅਭੇਵ ॥
ਅਤੇ ਅਭੇਵ ਦੱਤ ਦਾ
ਚਿਤ ਤਾਸ ਕੇ ਰਸ ਭੀਨ ॥
ਚਿੱਤ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਰਸ ਵਿਚ ਭਿਜ ਗਿਆ
ਗੁਰੁ ਤ੍ਰਉਦਸਮੋ ਤਿਹ ਕੀਨ ॥੨੮੬॥
The blemishless Dutt, accepting him as his Guru, absorbed his mind in his love and in this way adopted him as the Thirteenth Guru.286.
ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰ੍ਹਵਾਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਧਾਰਨ ਕੀਤਾ ॥੨੮੬॥
ਇਤਿ ਤ੍ਰਉਦਸਮੋ ਗੁਰੂ ਭ੍ਰਿਤ ਸਮਾਪਤੰ ॥੧੩॥
