MOHINI STANZA
ਮੋਹਣੀ ਛੰਦ:
ਗਉਰ ਸਰੂਪ ਮਹਾ ਛਬਿ ਸੋਹਤ ॥
ਗੌਰੀ (ਪਾਰਬਤੀ) ਦੇ ਸਰੂਪ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਛਬੀ ਬਹੁਤ ਸ਼ੋਭਾਸ਼ਾਲੀ ਸੀ।
ਦੇਖਤ ਸੁਰ ਨਰ ਕੋ ਮਨ ਮੋਹਤ ॥
These whit-complexioned elegant women were fascinating the mind of gods and men
ਵੇਖਣ 'ਤੇ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਮੋਹ ਲੈਂਦੀਆਂ ਸਨ।
ਰੀਝਤ ਤਾਕਿ ਬਡੇ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਐਸੇ ॥
(ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਰੀਝ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ
ਸੋਭਹਿੰ ਕਉਨ ਸਕੈ ਕਹਿ ਤੈਸੇ ॥੨੫॥
Seeing them, the great kings got pleased what more description can be given of their glory?.25.
ਕਿ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ੋਭਾ ਦਾ ਵਰਣਨ ਭਲਾ ਕੌਣ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨੫॥
ਸੁੰਦਰ ਰੂਪ ਮਹਾ ਦੁਤਿ ਬਾਲੀਯ ॥
(ਉਹ) ਇਸਤਰੀਆਂ ਮਹਾਨ ਸਰੂਪ ਅਤੇ ਚਮਕ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਸਨ।
ਪੇਖਤ ਰੀਝਤ ਬੀਰ ਰਸਾਲੀਯ ॥
Seeing the embellishment of these women, many men of taste were getting pleased
(ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਰਸਿਕ ਸੂਰਬੀਰ ਰੀਝ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਸਨ।
ਨਾਚਤ ਭਾਵ ਅਨੇਕ ਤ੍ਰੀਆ ਕਰਿ ॥
ਇਸਤਰੀਆਂ ਅਨੇਕ ਹਾਵ-ਭਾਵ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਨਚਦੀਆਂ ਸਨ।
ਦੇਖਤ ਸੋਭਾ ਰੀਝਤ ਸੁਰ ਨਰ ॥੨੬॥
The women were dancing in many emotional postures, seeing which all the gods and men were delighted.26.
(ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ) ਸ਼ੋਭਾ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਦੇਵਤੇ ਅਤੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਰੀਝ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ ॥੨੬॥
ਹਿੰਸਤ ਹੈਵਰ ਚਿੰਸਤ ਹਾਥੀ ॥
ਘੋੜੇ ਹਿਣਕ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ, ਹਾਥੀ ਚਿੰਘਾੜ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ।
ਨਾਚਤ ਨਾਗਰਿ ਗਾਵਤ ਗਾਥੀ ॥
The horses were neighing
ਇਸਤਰੀਆਂ ('ਨਾਗਰਿ') ਨਚ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਗਾਥਾ ਗਾ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਸਨ।
ਰੀਝਤ ਸੁਰ ਨਰ ਮੋਹਤ ਰਾਜਾ ॥
(ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ) ਦੇਵਤੇ ਅਤੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਰੀਝ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਮੋਹਿਤ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ।
ਦੇਵਤ ਦਾਨ ਤੁਰੰਤ ਸਮਾਜਾ ॥੨੭॥
The elephants were trumpeting and the people of the town were dancing the gods, men and women were all getting pleased and the kings were busy in bestowing charities.27.
ਤੁਰਤ ਅਨੇਕ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਮਾਨ ਦਾ ਦਾਨ ਦੇ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ ॥੨੭॥
ਗਾਵਤ ਗੀਤਨ ਨਾਚਤ ਅਪਛਰਾ ॥
ਅਪੱਛਰਾਵਾਂ ਗੀਤ ਗਾ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਨਚ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਸਨ।
ਰੀਝਤ ਰਾਜਾ ਖੀਝਤ ਅਛਰਾ ॥
The heavenly damsels were dancing while singing, seeing whom, the kings got pleased and their queens were also getting angry
ਰਾਜੇ ਖੁਸ਼ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ (ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ) ਰਾਣੀਆਂ ('ਅਛਰਾ') ਖਿਝ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਸਨ।
ਬਾਜਤ ਨਾਰਦ ਬੀਨ ਰਸਾਲੀ ॥
ਨਾਰਦ ਦੀ ਰਸ-ਭਿੰਨੀ ਬੀਨ ਵਜ ਰਹੀ ਸੀ।
ਦੇਖਤ ਦੇਵ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਸਤ ਜ੍ਵਾਲੀ ॥੨੮॥
The pretty lyre of Narada was being played, seeing which the gods seemed radiant like fire.28.
ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਵੇਖਣ ਨਾਲ ਅੱਗ ਵਾਂਗ ਮਚ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਸਨ ॥੨੮॥
ਆਂਜਤ ਅੰਜਨ ਸਾਜਤ ਅੰਗਾ ॥
ਅੱਖਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਮਾ ਪਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਅੰਗ ਸਜੇ ਹੋਏ ਸਨ।
ਸੋਭਤ ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਸੁ ਅੰਗ ਸੁਰੰਗਾ ॥
All of them had put antimony in their eyes and had bedecked their limbs, having worn handsome garments
ਸੁੰਦਰ ਅੰਗਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਸੁਰੰਗੇ ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਸ਼ੋਭ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ।
ਨਾਚਤ ਅਛ੍ਰੀ ਰੀਝਤ ਰਾਊ ॥
ਅਪੱਛਰਾਵਾਂ ਨਚਦੀਆਂ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਸਨ।
ਚਾਹਤ ਬਰਬੋ ਕਰਤ ਉਪਾਊ ॥੨੯॥
The kings were getting pleased and were trying to wed them.29.
(ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਵਰਨ ਦੇ ਉਪਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਸਨ ॥੨੯॥
ਤਤਥਈ ਨਾਚੈ ਸੁਰ ਪੁਰ ਬਾਲਾ ॥
'ਤਤਥਈ' ਸੁਰ ਉਤੇ ਇਸਤਰੀਆਂ ਨਚ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਸਨ।
ਰੁਣ ਝੁਣ ਬਾਜੈ ਰੰਗ ਅੰਗ ਮਾਲਾ ॥
The women of gods were dancing and the jingling of the rosaries of their limbs was being heard
ਰੁਣ ਝੁਣ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਸਾਜ਼) ਵਜਦੇ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਰਾਗ ਮਾਲਾ ਵਰਗੇ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਅੰਗ ਸਨ।
ਬਨਿ ਬਨਿ ਬੈਠੇ ਜਹ ਤਹ ਰਾਜਾ ॥
ਜਿਥੇ ਕਿਥੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਬਣ ਠਣ ਕੇ ਬੈਠੇ ਸਨ
ਦੈ ਦੈ ਡਾਰੈ ਤਨ ਮਨ ਸਾਜਾ ॥੩੦॥
The kings were sitting with pomp and show at various places.30.
ਜੋ ਤਨ ਮਨ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਜ਼ ਸਾਮਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਰੀ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ ॥੩੦॥
ਜਿਹ ਜਿਹ ਦੇਖਾ ਸੋ ਸੋ ਰੀਝਾ ॥
ਜਿਸ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਵੀ (ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਇਸਤਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ) ਵੇਖਿਆ ਸੀ, ਉਹ ਰੀਝ ਗਏ ਸਨ
ਜਿਨ ਨਹੀ ਦੇਖਾ ਤਿਹ ਮਨ ਖੀਝਾ ॥
Whosoever saw this, he was pleased and he who did not see this, he got angry in his mind
ਅਤੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਵੇਖਿਆ, ਉਹ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਖਿਝ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ।
ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਭਾਯੰ ਤ੍ਰੀਅ ਬਰ ਨਾਚੈ ॥
ਹਾਵ ਭਾਵ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਇਸਤਰੀਆਂ ਨਚਦੀਆਂ ਸਨ।
ਅਤਿਭੁਤਿ ਭਾਯੰ ਅੰਗ ਅੰਗ ਰਾਚੈ ॥੩੧॥
The women were dancing, exhibiting various kinds of emotions and there was wonderful emotional play from every limb of theirs.31.
ਅਦਭੁਤ ਭਾਵ (ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ) ਅੰਗ ਅੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰਚੇ ਹੋਏ ਸਨ ॥੩੧॥
ਤਿਨ ਅਤਿਭੁਤਿ ਗਤਿ ਤਹ ਜਹ ਠਾਨੀ ॥
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਅਦਭੁਤ ਗਤੀ ਜਿਥੇ ਕਿਥੇ ਸਥਿਰ ਹੋ ਰਹੀ ਸੀ।
ਜਹ ਤਹ ਸੋਹੈ ਮੁਨਿ ਮਨਿ ਮਾਨੀ ॥
Those women also decided to do something marvelous at that place, because there were sitting there some persistent sages
ਜਿਥੇ ਕਿਥੇ ਉਹ ਸੁਸ਼ੋਭਿਤ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਮੁਨੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਭਾ ਗਈ ਸੀ।
ਤਜਿ ਤਜਿ ਜੋਗੰ ਭਜਿ ਭਜਿ ਆਵੈ ॥
(ਫਲਸਰੂਪ ਮੁਨੀ ਲੋਕ) ਜੋਗ ਨੂੰ ਛਡ ਛਡ ਕੇ (ਉਥੇ) ਭਜੇ ਆ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ।
ਲਖਿ ਅਤਿ ਆਭਾ ਜੀਅ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੩੨॥
The Yogis leaving their meditation came running and seeing the glory of this function, they were pleased.32.
ਬਹੁਤ ਵੱਡੀ ਚਮਕ ਦਮਕ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਖ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਸਨ ॥੩੨॥
ਬਨਿ ਬਨਿ ਬੈਠੇ ਜਹ ਤਹ ਰਾਜਾ ॥
ਜਿਥੇ ਕਿਥੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਬਣ ਠਣ ਕੇ ਬੈਠੇ ਸਨ
ਜਹ ਤਹ ਸੋਭੈ ਸਭ ਸੁਭ ਸਾਜਾ ॥
Wherever the kings were sitting well-bedecked, the atmosphere of that place seemed extremely splendid
ਅਤੇ ਜਿਥੇ ਕਿਥੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਸ਼ੁਭ ਸਾਜ ਸਜਾਵਟ ਨਾਲ ਸ਼ੋਭਾਇਮਾਨ ਸਨ।
ਜਹ ਤਹ ਦੇਖੈ ਗੁਨਿ ਗਨ ਫੂਲੇ ॥
ਜਿਥੇ ਕਿਥੇ ਵੇਖਦੇ ਸਨ (ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ) ਸਾਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਫੁਲ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਸਨ।
ਮੁਨਿ ਮਨਿ ਛਬਿ ਲਖਿ ਤਨ ਮਨ ਭੂਲੇ ॥੩੩॥
The kings were filled with pleasure here and there, accomplished with their qualities and servants and the sages seeing their magnificence, had forgotten the consciousness of their mind and body.33.
(ਉਥੋਂ ਦੀ) ਛਬੀ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਮੁਨੀ (ਲੋਗ ਆਪਣੇ) ਮਨ ਤੋਂ ਤਨ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਸਨ ॥੩੩॥
ਤਤ ਬਿਤ ਘਨ ਮੁਖਰਸ ਸਬ ਬਾਜੈ ॥
ਤਤ, ਬਿਤ, ਘਨ, ਮੁਖਰਸ ਆਦਿ ਸਭ (ਸ਼ਬਦ) ਵਜਦੇ ਸਨ।
ਸੁਨਿ ਮਨ ਰਾਗੰ ਗੁਨਿ ਗਨ ਲਾਜੈ ॥
The stringed musical instruments were being played there and hearing their pleasing musical modes, the experts of musicology were feeling shy
(ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਗੁਣੀ ਰਾਗੀ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਲਜਾਵਾਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਸਨ।
ਜਹ ਤਹ ਗਿਰ ਗੇ ਰਿਝਿ ਰਿਝਿ ਐਸੇ ॥
ਜਿਥੇ ਕਿਥੇ ਰੀਝ ਰੀਝ ਕੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਡਿਗ ਪਏ ਸਨ,
ਜਨੁ ਭਟ ਜੂਝੇ ਰਣ ਬ੍ਰਿਣ ਕੈਸੇ ॥੩੪॥
Hearing the tunes of the musical instruments, the kings fell down here and there like the warriors lying wounded in the battlefield.34.
ਮਾਨੋ ਰਣ-ਭੂਮੀ ਵਿਚ ਯੋਧੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਘਾਇਲ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਡਿਗ ਪਏ ਹੋਣ ॥੩੪॥
ਬਨਿ ਬਨਿ ਫੂਲੇ ਜਨੁ ਬਰ ਫੂਲੰ ॥
(ਉਥੇ ਬੈਠੇ ਰਾਜੇ) ਮਾਨੋ ਬਨ ਬਨ ਵਿਚ ਖਿੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਫੁਲ ਹੋਣ
ਤਨੁ ਬਰੁ ਸੋਭੇ ਜਨੁ ਧਰ ਮੂਲੰ ॥
They seemed to have blossomed like the flowers of the forest and their bodies were exhibiting the fundamental emotion of the earthly comfort
ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਰੀਰ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸ਼ੋਭਾ ਪਾ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ ਮਾਨੋ (ਫੁਲਦਾਰ ਬੂਟਿਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ) ਜੜ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੋਣ।
ਜਹੰ ਤਹੰ ਝੂਲੇ ਮਦ ਮਤ ਰਾਜਾ ॥
ਜਿਥੇ ਕਿਥੇ ਸ਼ਰਾਬ ਨਾਲ ਮਸਤ ਰਾਜੇ ਝੁਲ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ,
ਜਨੁ ਮੁਰਿ ਬੋਲੈ ਸੁਨ ਘਨ ਗਾਜਾ ॥੩੫॥
The intoxicated kings were swinging here and there like the peacocks getting intoxicated hearing the thundering of clouds.35.
ਮਾਨੋ ਬਦਲ ਦੀ ਗਰਜ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਮੋਰ ਬੋਲ ਰਹੇ ਹੋਣ ॥੩੫॥
