ਚੌਪਈ:
ਜੋਬਨ ਅਧਿਕ ਤਾਹਿ ਜਬ ਭਯੋ ॥
ਜਦ ਉਹ ਭਰ ਜਵਾਨ ਹੋ ਗਈ
ਲੈ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਗੰਗਾ ਪਿਤੁ ਗਯੋ ॥
When she attained full maturity, her father though of taking her to (River) Ganga (for pilgrimage),
ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਤਾ ਗੰਗਾ (ਦੇ ਕੰਢੇ) ਲੈ ਗਿਆ।
ਬਡੇ ਬਡੇ ਰਾਜਾ ਤਹ ਐਹੈ ॥
ਉਥੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਆਏ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਤਿਨ ਮੈ ਭਲੋ ਹੇਰਿ ਤਹ ਦੈਹੈ ॥੩॥
Where all the big Rajas used- to come, and, perhaps, they would come across a suitable match for her.(3)
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਚੰਗਾ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ (ਗੰਗਾ ਮਈਆ) ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਦੇ ਦੇਵੇਗੀ ॥੩॥
ਚਲੇ ਚਲੇ ਗੰਗਾ ਪਹਿ ਆਏ ॥
(ਉਹ) ਚਲਦੇ ਚਲਦੇ ਗੰਗਾ ਦੇ ਕੰਢੇ ਆ ਗਏ
ਬੰਧੁ ਸੁਤਾ ਇਸਤ੍ਰਿਨ ਸੰਗ ਲ︀ਯਾਏ ॥
Walking and walking they reached Ganga, along with a number of ladies.
ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ (ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ) ਇਸਤਰੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਬੇਟੀਆਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ।
ਸ੍ਰੀ ਜਾਨ੍ਰਹਵਿ ਕੋ ਦਰਸਨ ਕੀਨੋ ॥
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੰਗਾ ਦੇ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕੀਤੇ
ਪੂਰਬ ਪਾਪ ਬਿਦਾ ਕਰਿ ਦੀਨੋ ॥੪॥
They paid their respects to the Ganga to cast off their profanities of the life theretofore.( 4)
ਅਤੇ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਪਾਪ ਮਿਟਾ ਦਿੱਤੇ ॥੪॥
ਬਡੇ ਬਡੇ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਤਹ ਆਏ ॥
ਉਥੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਆਏ ਹੋਏ ਸਨ।
ਤਵਨਿ ਕੁਅਰਿ ਕੋ ਸਕਲ ਦਿਖਾਏ ॥
There had come many a magnanimous Rajas who were presented to the princess.
(ਉਹ) ਸਾਰੇ ਉਸ ਰਾਜ ਕੁਮਾਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਖਾਏ (ਅਤੇ ਕਿਹਾ)
ਇਨ ਪਰ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਸਭਨ ਪਰ ਕਰਿਯੈ ॥
ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖੋ
ਜੋ ਜਿਯ ਰੁਚੈ ਤਿਸੀ ਕੌ ਬਰਿਯੈ ॥੫॥
She was told to have a look on them; whomsoever she liked, she would be betrothed to.(5)
ਅਤੇ ਜੋ ਚੰਗਾ ਲਗੇ, ਉਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਵਰ ਲਵੋ ॥੫॥
